Bereket Simon resigns from his position as Adviser to the Prime Minister

Bereket Simon, a veteran politician and member of EPRDF, tendered his second resignation in a week, departing from the post of an Adviser to the Prime Minister in charge of Policy Studies & Research Centre.

He has served as the premier’s senior adviser under a ministerial portfolio for the past four years.

Just a week ago, he gave up his post as a Board Chairman of the state giant Commercial Bank of Ethiopia (CBE) after serving for seven years. Yinager Dessie (PhD), commissioner of  National Planning Commission replaced him after receiving  an appointment letter signed by Sintayehu Woldemicahel (PhD), director of Public Financial Enterprises Agency.

His departure is the third in a year. Five months ago, he handed over the same position at Tiret Corporate, an affiliate of Amhara National Democratic Movement (ANDM), to Ahmed Abitew, minister of Industry, after chairing the board for two decades.

The then Minister of Communication, Bereket, has served the government in different positions over past two decades.

Bereket is not the only one to resign from a high-level post this year. Two weeks ago, Abadula Gemeda also resigned from his post after serving as Speaker of Parliament for seven years.
