Public Procurement & Property Disposal Service awarded Afro Tsion Construction Plc a 290 million Br contract for the construction of headquarters (HQ) for the Arada District last week.
The bid was announced in February 2015, inviting local companies to participate in the bid; Zamra Construction Plc and Teklebrehan Amabaye Construction Plc (TACON) gave their respective offers. As per the process the second lowest offer of 310 million Br was made by TACON.
The technical opening was made on April 8, 2015 and the award to Afro was announced in a letter signed by Yigezu Daba, director of the Service on September 11, 2015.
Afro has saved 10pc of the contract price as performance security bond, said Yared Girshaw, Business Development and Contract administration manager at Afro.
The head office will be constructed around Basha Wolde Chelot condominium site, close to the site set aside for the construction of the Office of the Federal Government Communication Affairs headquarters, for which a process is underway to hire a contractor. The Arada District HQ will be 10 storeys high, using the same design as other district HQs in Addis Abeba, designed by MGM Consultants Plc four years ago. The city administration has allocated 1.5 billion Br for the construction of separate headquarters for five districts including Yeka, Bole, Kolfe, Gulele and Akaki.
The latest award has come after two companies, Zamra and Asmelash Ena Lejochu Construction Plc, were awarded contracts for Kolfe Keranio and Kirkos districts with 250 million Br and 297 million Br, respectively.
Afro is expected to begin mobilising resources for the construction this week, for completion in 730 days.
Afro is a grade one construction company, which was recently awarded a 282 million Br contract for the Ethiopian Airlines employees’ housing project. In addition it recently completed and handed over the new building for Menelik II Referral Hospital.
