National Movement of Amhara announce establishment of party

The Amhara National Movement Party has finally announced its establishment and held its founding members meeting in Bahir Dar, The Reporter has learnt.

The new party which was founded by scholars from universities said “it will fight for the respect of Amhara ethnic group.”

It also stressed that it will work towards the amendments of the constitution.

The current constitution was designed in a way that ignores the interest of Amharas at large, said Christain Tadelle, communication head of the Party, in an exclusive interview given to The Reporter. So, we will work on this aspect.

The new party which said will follow the moderate liberal ideology will soon open its office in Addis Ababa. According to its communication head, the party also believes that Addis Ababa is a city belonging to the Amhara ethnic group.

In addition, the party said that there are a number of lands which are currently transferred to other regions but in fact belongs to Amhara ethnic group.

“We will disclose that name of those places after a deep research,” said Christain.

After passing through all the registration process by the National Electoral Board of Ethiopia, the party said will focus on setting up its structure across the country.
