Fraud and Tax Evasion by a known cash register supplier being investigated

Haron Computer PLC, anauthorized sales register machine supplier and suspected associates were charged by the Ethiopian Revenue and Customs Authority (ERCA) prosecutors on allegations of misappropriating register machines’ operation. Tax Authority to Advance to e-payment System in September

The Ethiopian Customs & Revenue Authority (ERCA) is to launch an e-payment system in the first weeks of September 2015.

The system will first open for large tax payers (LTP) – those with a turnover of 27 million Br, annually.

This is the extension of the e-filing system, which ERCA has been implementing for the past four years for both large and medium tax payers. It was installed in 2009 by CRC Sogema, a consulting firm based in Canada, with a 90,000 dollars financial support from the Investment Climate Facilitation

Court freezes assets of Tidhar Excavation and Earth Moving Ltd

The 18th Criminal Bench of the Federal High Court at Lideta Division ruled on July 27 to freeze the asset of the Israeli construction company Tidhar Excavation and Earth Moving Ltd. pursuant of the charges that were filed by the Federal Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission (FEACC).

ERCA plans to double its workforce

The Ethiopian Revenue and Customs Authority (ERCA), which has been operating with half of its required human resources, intends to double its staff.
The authority that is responsible for collecting taxes and controlling customs currently has 10,769 employees, which is only 52 percent of the staff it requires.
