Amhara Bank S.C is a new bank under formation which has received a license from the National Bank of Ethiopia (NBE) to start selling shares to the public. The process of establishing the bank began  a few months ago, where a committee chaired by Melaku Fenta, former head of Ethiopian Revenues & Customs Authority (ERCA) and managed by Mesenbet Shenkute, Addis Ababa Chamber of Commerce & Sectoral Associations president and a former bank executive with years of experience.

As of March 2020, Amhara Bank S.C has sold over 5 billion birr worth of shares out of which 4 billion is paid up. The new bank has around 100,000 shareholders which makes it the largest number among all private banks in Ethiopia. 1 share has a value of 10,000 birr and the minimum number of shares that can be purchased is 10 (10,000 birr) with the service charge value being 5%.

The final date for share sales, which was March 09, 2020 (የካቲት 30) has been postponed by 5 weeks April 22 (ሚያዝያ 7) in order to allow the diaspora community to buy shares. Ethiopian diasporas can and are encouraged to buy the bank’s shares.
