According to Samuel Kifle, head of Ethiopia’s Ministry of Education (MoE), the minimum mark required to attend government universities for natural science students is 363 for male and 351 for female students.
For students in rural areas, the cut off mark has been lowered to 351 for male and 339 for female students. The passing mark for students with hearing disability will be 300 for both male and female students. For students who retook the exam, the cut off mark will be 380. In order to be eligible to join private universities, the cut-off point is 300.
The highest score recorded is 623. For 1st round exam takers the highest mark recorded is 563 while 623 was recorded as the highest score point for 2nd round exam takers. A total of 598,623 students took the grade 12 exam out of which 283,223 scored 50% or above. Out of the 283,223 students, 152,014 are eligible to join government universities while the remaining 135,209 students will seek other higher education alternatives. Out of the 152,014 students joining government universities, 63,883 are female.

የ2013 ዓ.ም የ12ኛ ክፍል መልቀቂያ ፈተና በመጀመሪያው ዙር ፈተና የተመዘገበው ከፍተኛው ውጤት 563 ሲሆን በሁለተኛው ዙር የተመዘገበው ከፍተኛ ውጤት ደግሞ 623 መሆኑ ነው የተነገረው። ከፍተኛ ውጤቱም በተፈጥሮ ሳይንስ የትምህርት መስክ የተመዘገበ መሆኑም ታውቋል።
ፈተናው በመጀመሪያው ዙር ለተፈጥሮ ሳይንስ ከ 600፣ ለማህበራዊ ሳይንስ ደግሞ ከ 500 የተያዘ ሲሆን በሁለተኛ ዙር ለተፈጥሮ ሳይንስ ከ700 ፣ ለማህበራዊ ሳይንስ ከ 600 መያዙ ታውቋል።
