Abay Bank has earned 1.3bln br profit before tax for the 2022/2021 budget year decreasing it’s earning per share (EPS) from 333.5 for the previous year to 295. The Bank’s shareholders endorsed raising the Bank’s capital to 12 billion Birr. The Bank’s paid-up capital at the end of the budget year reached 3.9bln birr.

High Court orders Abay Bank to pay 306mln Birr to Ethiopian Roads Administration

A year-long court saga between the Ethiopian Roads Administration and Abay Bank S.C. ended with the judges at the Federal High Court ordering the bank to pay 306 million birr.

The bank became liable for two advance payment guarantees it gave to the Roads Admin for road construction projects that the Administration (then Authority) and Tekle Berhan Ambaye Construction Plc signed in 2017.

Abay Bank, one of the youngest banks, has joined the race to build the next large bank headquarters with an investment of 827 million Br, following the lead of a host of other private banks.

To be completed in the next four years, Abay’s headquarters will rest on a 1,600Sqm plot in Lideta District. The 26-storey building will have offices, a meeting facility and a parking space that can accommodate up to 150 cars at any given time.
